Frequently Asked Questions
What are the continuing education requirements in Maine?

In Maine, Associate Broker and Broker licensees must complete 21 hours of approved continuing education every two years. Three of these hours must be the Core Course.

CORE COURSE REQUIREMENT

WHICH COURSE DO YOU NEED TO MEET THE REAL ESTATE COMMISSION CORE COURSE REQUIREMENT?

Effective April 1, 2023 the Real Estate Commission core course requirement is “Buyer Relationships Core Course”.

The course noted above is required if:

·      your license expiration date is on or after April 1, 2023 (even if you renew before April 1, 2023).

·      your license has expired and you renew on or after April 1, 2023.

·      you activate a license on or after April 1, 2023.

Can I carry over "extra CE credit hours" for my next license renewal?

The answer is no.  CE hours completed prior to your renewal only apply to that renewal cycle.  Your clock hours for your next renewal begins on or after the issue date of your license.

What happens if I have not completed my 21 hours of CE when my license expires?

You are not able to renew your license until the CE hours, including the applicable Core Course has been completed.  You have up to 90 calendar days from your license expiration date to complete your CE, and then submit a late renewal with an additional $50 late fee.

YOU MAY NOT PRACTICE DURING THE TIME THE LICENSE IS EXPIRED!
