About the Class
The Designated Broker Course is a 50-hour program approved by the Maine Real Estate Commission as meeting the criteria for getting a Maine Broker real estate license and to serve as a Designated Broker.
It is also approved for 18 clock hours of Continuing Education for current Broker and Designated Broker license renewals.
The course covers business planning, creating a company policy manual, risk management, ethical issues, how to set up an effective training program, and more. Eligibility
To qualify for application to the Commission, you need to have held an Associate Broker license, affiliated with a real estate brokerage agency, for a span of 2 years within the immediate 5 years leading up to your application date. These 2 years of licensure don't have to be consecutive, but they must fall within the 5-year timeframe preceding your application.
Furthermore, you're required to successfully complete the Designated Broker Course, securing a final grade of at least 75%. Your application should be accompanied by the Designated Broker Course Completion Certificate. Remember, this certificate remains valid for a duration of up to 1 year from the date you complete the course.
Lastly, it's worth noting that a licensed real estate broker is eligible to serve as the designated broker for an agency. In this capacity, they assume responsibility for the agency's operations and the conduct of its associates and employees.

This is what our students are saying about this course:
"Hi Geoff, thank you for a great broker class. I think I was a little stunned after the course and test but it all went well!! I am so glad I took it and you kept us all going and laughing. Much appreciated."
"Geoff MacLean is a Maine treasure. I am licensed in MA and NH and neither of those states prepare you for the challenges, strategies, and logistics of operating a brokerage as a designated broker like Maine licensing law and Geoff's years of experience do. I'm not sure people can appreciate the education and opportunity that TRELG offers without the perspective of operating in the dark in other states. Thank you Geoff. The in-the-trenches examples are invaluable. I was not required to take this course, because I hold the Designated Broker position in two other states, but I wanted to make sure we could operate at the highest level. This is is the single best course I have taken in my several decade career. If you never want to be the designated broker, but you value best practices and operating at the highest level, take Geoff's class. You won't regret it."
