The Broker/Designated Broker Course is a 50-hour program approved by the Maine Real Estate Commission as meeting the criteria for earning a Maine Broker real estate license and serving as a Designated Broker.
It is also approved for 18 clock hours of Continuing Education for current Broker and Designated Broker license renewals.
This program is delivered primarily online through our modern, user-friendly learning system—designed to make progressing through your coursework smooth, intuitive, and accessible from anywhere. And because we’re a Maine-based education provider, you’ll always have direct access to a highly responsive local support team that understands your market and is committed to exceptional service.
The course covers business planning, creating a company policy manual, risk management, ethical issues, setting up an effective training program, and more. In true TRELG fashion, it’s offered in a convenient blended format: complete your online self-study at your own pace and attend just 12 hours of engaging workshops, via livestream. You may begin your online work at any time and then choose the workshop dates that best fit your schedule. There is no textbook, and there are no “state” or “national” exams after you complete the course.
Eligibility
To qualify for application to the Commission, you need to have held an Associate Broker license, affiliated with a real estate brokerage agency, for a span of 2 years within the immediate 5 years leading up to your application date. These 2 years of licensure don't have to be consecutive, but they must fall within the 5-year timeframe preceding your application.
Furthermore, you're required to successfully complete The Broker/Designated Broker Course, securing a final grade of at least 75%. The Designated Broker Course Completion Certificate should accompany your application. Remember, this certificate remains valid for a duration of up to 1 year from the date you complete the course.
Lastly, it's worth noting that a licensed real estate broker is eligible to serve as the designated broker for an agency. In this capacity, they assume responsibility for the agency's operations and the conduct of its associates and employees.
WORKSHOPS
To complete this course, you must attend four three-hour workshops— by Zoom Livestream — these must be completed before taking the Final Exam.
Workshops are offered year-round, so you can enroll now and choose the sessions that best fit your schedule. Once registered, you can begin your online coursework right away. While it's recommended to complete through Unit 11 before attending a workshop, it’s not required.
